Shocks No More! By Kim Rosan Tousignant, Psy.D., Independent Psychologist
In 1980, Kim had a friend explain MPD and shared that her alters trusted Kim. This led to 40+ years of interest in learning about Dissociation and treatment of Dissociation.
After her Bachelor’s degree in psychology (Cum Laude, NCSU), Kim assisted with research (1990-1992) of treatment-resistant patients at Dorothea Dix [State] Hospital (Raleigh, NC). Dr. Corrigan (UNC-Chapel Hill) led this chart review of hundreds to discover many had DID!
Kim attended Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP), with her master’s degree awarded in 1994, and her Doctor of Psychology degree conferred in 2001. Dissertation: Dissociative experiences in clinical populations in two cultures (Germany & America, conducted in 1995): Changes in DES scores with Treatment. Kim was a DBT Clinician (1998-2000) at Park Center, Inc. (Fort Wayne, IN). Kim completed a Mini-Fellowship (1999-2000) with Dr. Elizabeth Bowman at Indiana University.
Kim relocated to Maine in 2000, initially licensed with her Master’s degree (LCPC). Dr. Vedat Sar and Dr. Tousignant co-authored: International Research on Dissociation, ISSD NEWS, June/July, 2002. At 2002’s November ISSD Conference (Baltimore, MD), she presented Significant International Contributions to the Understanding of Dissociation.
Dr. Tousignant finally attained her Psychologist licensure in 2013. Dr. Kim Tousignant is honored to have provided psychotherapy to rural low-income Downeast Mainers for over 20 years.
Dr. Tousignant credits development of Shocks No More! Model to her high-quality training, unique research opportunities, Learned Helplessness theory, the Transtheoretical Approach, DBT, and Systems work.
Some say Shocks No More! is “a bit too simple.” Psychology imparts content AND how to engage learning. Simple language, short topic snippets, and entertaining pictures demystify healing which empowers ownership.
