Evelyn Dilkes (MSc) is a PhD Candidate at the University of Essex, funded by the Economic and Social Research Council and the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council, specialising in biosocial research. Her doctoral research examines the relationship between adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) and the development of depersonalisation and derealisation symptoms later in life, utilising a mixed-methods approach with longitudinal data analysis.
Evelyn holds an MSc in Child Development from University College London and a BSc in Psychology from Nottingham Trent University. She has over a decade of experience in research and psychology-related fields, including psychometrics, survey design, and experimental work. She has contributed to multiple academic publications and has presented her research at conferences across the UK.
Alongside her PhD, Evelyn works as a researcher at Boster Group and has previously held roles as a research assistant and graduate lab assistant at the University of Essex. Prior to this, she worked at Cognacity, a world-leading mental health company, where she served as Lead Psychometric and Data Analyst.
She has delivered guest lectures at Nottingham Trent University and the University of British Columbia, sharing her expertise on depersonalisation and derealisation. Her research has been featured by the Gen-Z publisher Screenshot, and she appears in an upcoming documentary produced by members of Unreal UK, a mental health charity supporting those affected by depersonalisation and derealisation.
With a strong passion for mental health research and policy, Evelyn’s expertise lies in understanding the interplay between biological and social factors in mental health outcomes and raising awareness of Derealisation-Depersonalisation Disorder.
