Celeste M. Tan is a dedicated research assistant with the Institute of Mental Health, the sole tertiary psychiatric hospital in Singapore. She is the lead reviewer of an ongoing meta-analysis exploring the complex relationship between Dissociation, Trauma and Psychosis/Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Additionally, she manages a research study examining the clinical relevancy of non-criterion A traumatic events in the local context. Her current investigation focuses on understanding the prevalence of subthreshold PTSD and its associated factors in individuals with severe mental illness. Looking ahead, Celeste will be involved in an intervention study based on the Skills Training in Affective and Interpersonal Regulation (STAIR) therapy. In addition to her research work, Celeste contributes as a victim care officer with the Singapore Police Force.
Celeste has experience interviewing outpatients with severe mental illnesses like schizophrenia, depression and bipolar disorder to assess PTSD and psychotic symptoms. Since 2021, she has also been engaging victims of crime who have been through traumatic events such as sexual abuse and scams. A Summa Cum Laude graduate from Singapore Management University, Celeste earned her Bachelor of Social Sciences in 2022, majoring in psychology.
She is professionally trained to administer the Clinician-Administered PTSD Scale for DSM-5 (CAPS-5) by the National Center of PTSD as well as the Brief Psychiatric Rating Scale (BPRS) in an Asian context for research. Additionally, she is also equipped to provide psychological first aid and to help clients manage trauma through psychoeducation and emotion regulation techniques. Celeste is passionate about supporting individuals in their recovery from psychological trauma and advancing research in PTSD and emotion regulation.
