Emily Heinlein, B.A., is a second-year graduate student at University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She is currently pursuing a PhD in Clinical Psychology. Ms. Heinlein received a B.A. in Psychology at University of Maryland Baltimore County in 2018.
Previously, Ms. Heinlein worked as a research assistant at University of Maryland Baltimore (UMB) from 2018-2023 in the Department of Psychiatric Services Research. Ms. Heinlein has contributed to several manuscripts since the beginning of her research career. She authored two publications about projects that delivered interventions for gambling (1) and Hepatitis C care (2) to at-risk populations and has contributed to other manuscripts that explore medical mistrust, opioid use disorder, the impact of social media on rape myth acceptance, and impulsivity within trauma-exposed samples. While at UMB, Ms. Heinlein also co-lead an evidence-based trauma recovery support group for women receiving treatment for opioid dependence, and launched a tele-health individualized protocol for group members during the COVID-19 shut down.
While working at University of Maryland Baltimore, Ms. Heinlein also participated in the 2023 Innovations in Recovery through Infrastructure Support (IRIS) Research Fellowship. During this fellowship, she led a project that assessed a university drug treatment program for knowledge about intimate partner violence and created a survivor-led training that collaborated with a local community partner. Ms. Heinlein maintains interest in survivor advocacy-focused research and empowerment-based trauma recovery models.
