Soumyaa Joshi is a Clinical Research Assistant in the Neurobiology of Affective and Traumatic Experiences Laboratory at McLean Hospital in Belmont, Massachusetts. Her research focuses on characterizing factors that drive disparities in mental health care and how trauma specifically impacts the brain and mental health outcomes. She has previously presented original research on neural consequences of ethnoracial inequities at national conferences such as the Anxiety and Depression Association of America Conference in April 2024. Previously, she worked as a Psychiatric Technician at Cayuga Medical Center in Ithaca, NY. She also conducted research in the Emotional and Physiological Influence on Cognition Lab at Ithaca College as well as the Developmental Cognitive Neuroscience Lab at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL), through the NSF Research Experience for Undergraduates in Community-Engaged Training for Advancing Health Equity. During her time at UNL, she analyzed the role of socioeconomic status as a moderator between emotion regulation strategies and internalizing mental health symptoms in adolescents during COVID-19. She graduated as an MLK Scholar with highest honors from Ithaca College with a Bachelor of Science in Applied Psychology with minors in Neuroscience and Counseling in 2023. In the future, she hopes to pursue a PhD in Clinical Psychology.
