Catriana Thorne is a third-year medical student at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine. She received her B.S. in biomedical engineering at the University of Connecticut in 2021 and her certification in paramedicine from State University of New York Cobleskill in 2022. She has advanced training and eight years of professional experience in emergency medical services. Catriana was previously employed by American Medical Response and was part of their Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Emergency Response Team (ERT). During 2020, she provided emergency medical relief to Texas for COVID-19. While stationed there she also responded to Louisiana for urgent evacuation efforts as Hurricane Delta approached. Currently, she is employed part-time as a paramedic at Hartford Health Care Hunters Ambulance. She joined the COVID-19 Epidemic Pandemic Impacts research team in the Department of Psychiatry in 2022 and is a co-investigator on the Impact of COVID-19 Pandemic Stressors on Mental Health Clinicians research study. Catriana’s experience working during the pandemic and personal experience with pandemic related stressors inspired interest in this area of research. Her other areas of academic interest include emergency medicine, social determinants of health and point of care ultrasound. Recently, she has competed and won second place in the American College of Emergency Physicians 2-minute Ultrasound Video Competition for the second time in a row. In her spare time, she enjoys gardening, taking care of over eighty indoor house plants, drying flowers, making floral arrangements, training in various aerial circus arts and performing at shows around new England.
