Jonathan M. Cleveland, Ph.D. is the director of adult psychology and director of training at a group practice in Southwestern Ohio. He is also a member of the clinical faculty at Wright State University’s School of Professional Psychology. Over the past decade, he has developed a clinical training program where doctoral students and postdoctoral residents learn to work with complex trauma and dissociation. Jon’s published research has focused on the relationship between hypnosis and dissociation, as well as the impact of childhood disclosure of sexual abuse on adult functioning. More recently, he has initiated a research project investigating the role of early adversity, trauma and dissociation in the etiology and maintenance of hallucinogen-persisting perception disorder (HPPD). He has presented on these topics at national and international conferences over the past few years.
Jon is past editor of Trauma Psychology News. His clinical approach is psychodynamic, incorporating hypnosis, ego state therapy, havening, and EMDR. Over the course of treatment, he collaborates with his clients to boost insight, self-esteem, resiliency, flexibility, the ability to trust, as well as the capacity for humor and creative expression.
Having served on the ISSTD board of directors since 2022, Jon is the current vice president of the organization (2025-2027). He is co-chair of the annual awards committee, chair of the research special interest group, and chair of the Midwest regional online community. He also serves on the science and membership committees. In his leisure time, Jon finds himself cooking, reading, and tinkering with synthesizers. He also enjoys playing golf and traveling to new places to ski & scuba dive with friends.
