Dr. Boon received a PhD in 1993 at the Free University of Amsterdam for her research study with the SCID-D title ' Multiple personality disorder in the Netherlands' a validation. She is currently working in private practice as a psychotherapist mainly with DID patients. She is a trainer and supervisor and teaching all over the world about assessment ad treatment of dissociative and other Trauma-Related Disorders. She was working from 1978-2002 as clinical psychologist and psychotherapist in a psychiatric outpatient department Amsterdam; from 1995-2002 at Forensic Psychiatric Department Roosenburg, Den Dolder , the Netherlands; From 2002-2007 at the Regional Psychiatric Department Zeist. She was program leader “Personality Disorders and Trauma-Related Disorders”. From 2007-2014 (retirement) she was working at Top referent Trauma Center Zeist (TRTC) as Consultant, Psychotherapist and supervisor.
Dr. Boon has published many research and clinical papers on diagnosis and treatment of Dissociative disorders. She developed a skillstraining manual for dissociative patients with Kathy Steele and Onno van der Hart 'Coping with Trauma-Related Dissociation' (Norton, 2011). She is a co author of Treating Trauma-Related Dissociation (Steele, Boon & Van der Hart, 2017. Norton publishers)
and recently she published a book on assessment including new diagnostic Interview 'the Trauma and Dissociation Symptoms Interview (TADS-) (Norton, 2023).
She has been involved in ISSTD since the late eighties. She was organizer of two ISSTD conferences in Amsterdam in the nineties. The International Society for the Study of Trauma and Dissociation (ISSTD) granted her the David Caul Memorial Award in 1993, the Morton Prince Award in 1994 and the President’s Award of Distinction and the Status of Fellow in 1995; The Life time Achievement Award in 2009 and twice the The Pierre Janet writing award 2011 and 2017.
Dr. is a cofounder of ESTD and was it's first president (2006-2009)
