Dr. Hvovi Bhagwagar is a Psychologist and Psychotherapist and holds a Ph.D. in Social Sciences from Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), Mumbai (2024), and a master’s degree in Clinical Psychology from SNDT University, Mumbai (1999). She is the founder of “Manashni,” a private practice in Mumbai, where she has been working with complex trauma, dissociative conditions, and personality disorders since 2000. She is trained in EMDR and has been extensively using it in her practice for clients with complex trauma and dissociation.
As a founding Board Member of the Mental Health Support Foundation [MHSF], a Mumbai based non-profit, she contributes to initiatives that support individuals with mental illness and their caregivers. Dr. Bhagwagar is also visiting faculty at institutions across Mumbai where she teaches trauma-related courses to aspiring mental health professionals. She has initiated two supervision groups for EMDR practitioners in India, and also offers clinical consultation for personality disorders, complex trauma and dissociative disorders. Her scholarly work includes publications in the Journal of EMDR Practice and Research and the Asian Journal of Psychiatry, as well as contributions to edited volumes on trauma interventions. She has also presented her research at both national and international conferences.
Her doctoral dissertation, titled “Secondary Trauma among Psychotherapists in India,” explores the challenges faced by therapists working with trauma survivors. Supporting the mental health of the therapist community, advocating for enhanced training, supervision, and self-care practices has been an area of growing interest for her. Through this work, she aims to contribute to a more compassionate and supportive environment for those dedicated to healing others.
