Alisa Torchia graduated as a member of the dean’s honours list at York University in 2021, obtaining an Honours B.A in Psychology. She completed a research project under the supervision of Dr. Mary Descrocher examining the current memory interventions available for children and adolescents, which is currently being prepared for publication. She also co-authored a systematic review of psychological interventions for externalizing behaviors following pediatric traumatic brain injury where she explored potential clinical implications. Alisa is passionate about developing, evaluating, and implementing interventions for youth and their families and making these treatments accessible for all.
Alisa and the research team at the Emotion Transformation Institute (ETI) are working on a manuscript highlighting sudden gains in Emotion Focused Therapy for Youth (EFT-Y). Alisa has been a contributing author to a presentation on nonverbal behaviour for the CPA conference this past June, through the ETI. She is currently volunteering in two other research labs at York University and Queen’s University. In Dr. Desrocher’s neuropsychology lab, she is working on executive functioning and neurorehabilitation projects, conducting literature reviews for the preliminary stages of the projects. In Dr. Alavi’s Queen’s University Online Psychotherapy Lab, she coordinates a study on depression and AI use as well as transcribes interviews on different studies using e-CBT.
Alisa is currently a crisis support volunteer for Kids Help Phone, providing crisis intervention and support through the Distress Text Line, and has received training in suicide prevention. She also supports adults with acquired brain injuries as Behaviour Consultant through Mackenzie Health.
