Dr. Lauren Lebois is a cognitive neuroscientist and Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School. She co-directs the Dissociative Disorders and Trauma Research Program at McLean Hospital, where her work focuses on unraveling the neurobiology of dissociation in trauma-spectrum disorders like posttraumatic stress disorder and dissocaitive identity disorder. Her research is funded by the National Institute of Mental Health and explores critical areas such as mindfulness-related interventions, the role of learning and plasticity in emotional regulation, and brain-behavior correlations of dissociation. She has a particular interest in self-referential processing in dissociative identity disorder. Dr. Lebois earned her PhD in cognitive psychology from Emory University, where she began her exploration into the intersections of cognition, emotion, and stress. She subsequently completed a postdoctoral fellowship at McLean Hospital and Harvard Medical School, which provided her with a platform to refine her focus on dissociation and its implications for mental health. Dr. Lebois has served as the Chair of the Scientific Committee for the International Society for the Study of Trauma and Dissociation (ISSTD). She also co-directs the Initiative for Integrated Trauma Research, Care, and Training at McLean, aiming to translate scientific discoveries into meaningful improvements in clinical practice and training. Her contributions have been recognized with several awards, including McLean Hospital’s Alfred Pope Award, ISSTD’s Pierre Janet Writing Award, Morton Prince Award, and Presidential Award of Distinction. Dr. Lebois is deeply committed to using her advances in neurobiology, behavior, and treatment to reduce the stigma and improve care for individuals living with PTSD and dissociative identity disorder.
