Abstract This ASCH approved 6-hour pre-conference hypnosis refresher is offered to licensed clinicians after completion of their ASCH approved/ASCH equivalent L2 (Intermediate) training in clinical hypnosis. In this advanced level workshop, participants will review and practice hypnosis skills and applications learned previously, and broaden their hypnosis skillset by focusing on refining the integration of hypnosis into their clinical work with diverse traumatized populations.
Didactic presentations, guided hypnotic experiences, demonstrations, and paired practices of hypnotic tools will emphasize the universal applicability and helpfulness of clinical hypnosis as a respectful, collaborative and co-created healing tool that empowers clients of diverse backgrounds to participate with dignity in their own healing journey after traumatic experiences.
More specifically, participants will focus on offering hypnosis for the regulation of unhelpful trance states such as anxiety, depression, and excessive anger, frequently co-occurring symptoms of unhealed trauma. Participants will observe, experience, and practice formal and informal ways to invite, intensify, utilize, and realert/reorient from, intentional trance experiences. They will observe, experience, and practice the use of hypnosis for the management of physical discomfort and pain in people of all ages and gain greater confidence in addressing this physical component that often accompanies emotional pain. Lastly, participants will have the opportunity to go beyond pathology into the realm of living and thriving with greater joy and contentment, and learn to use exploratory hypnosis for (personal) post-trauma growth, creativity, and play.
Ample time for case discussion in each segment of the workshop will ensure the presented information is relevant and applicable and meets the participants’ clinical needs.
By attending and participating in this hands-on refresher workshop, clinicians can look forward to expanding their existing knowledge, comfort, confidence, and facility in offering formal and informal hypnosis to their traumatized clients. They may also see opportunities to apply hypnosis for their own personal benefit.
